Trump Made Up Fake Power Ranger Fairy Princess Rambo Barbie Job Just To Distract Kristi Noem
Donald Trump may be a senile dumbass who knows so little about literally every subject that he’s too stupid to even grasp what he doesn’t know. But he does have a certain degree of gut smarts, the kind that knows how to be a conman, the kind that knows how to bullshit, and he knows how to use those powers on people who are every bit as daft, conniving, grifty, power-hungry, and vain as he is. Sometimes he uses those powers like one uses a laser pointer to distract a cat. When Trump fired Nazi Barbie Kristi Noem from the Department of Homeland Security, he made up a job for her. The title, if we remember correctly, was Mighty Morphin Elsa From Frozen Cowgirl Power Ranger Mr. Wonderful Wizard Of Oz Galinda Elphaba Davy Crockett Jesse James Calamity Jane Bonnie and Clyde Warrior Princess Medicine Woman the Vampire Slayer. Many people, especially those with Trump Derangement Syndrome, said “No, that’s not a job.” But oh yes it was, because Donald Trump, he who createth and destroyeth, who giveth and who taketh away, made it up for a very specific reason, namely to keep the baby distracted so she didn’t get excited about something like running for the Senate. This report comes from PunchUp, a Daily Beast newsletter from veteran reporter Tom Latchem (paywall, that we paid, so that we might tell you things): President Donald Trump invented a senior government role for Kristi Noem to stop her from running for a seat in the Senate this year, administration sources tell PunchUp, The title of “Special Envoy for the Shield of the Americas”—announced on March 5 by Trump, 79, as he publicly fired Noem from her role as DHS secretary—was effectively fabricated to ensure she missed the filing deadline for the South Dakota Senate race and would thus be unable to challenge incumbent Sen. Mike Rounds, according to multiple sources. “It was made up to keep her busy,” one source close to the administration told PunchUp of Noem’s new role. The source said the White House’s private view was that Noem had become so toxic it needed to “put her out to the glue factory”—and so invented an opening that kept her on the government payroll and off the ballot, but with no real power. Oh no! One could say Trump was trying to take Kristi Noem to a gravel pit and shoot her like a common innocent puppy named Cricket! Subscribe! Prefer a non-Substack subscription? The button below will take any amount of your choosing at Paypal — let me know if you want the newsletter subscription too! they’re separate! — or we have a Patreon too. Wonkette $ machine! What’s amazing is that this clearly did distract her, if this reporting is correct. She’s so irredeemably vapid, craven, and narcissistic that it sounds like she was like “YES I WILL BE PRINCESS OF THE SHIELD!” and literally nobody in her life was willing to tell her that wasn’t a thing. Not her reported fuckhumping buddy Corey Lewandowski, and definitely not her husband, because he was at the balloon animal store trying on boobies that day, we bet. The Trump regime people apparently were scared that she could pose a challenge to Mike Rounds in deep red South Dakota, and it’s not like team Trump is known for loyalty, especially to Republican senators, so it must be because they realized that if she beat him in a primary, she’s such a complete joke now that she could lose a Senate seat in the ruby red state where she used to be the governor. There were whispers about this in Republican circles, reportedly. There was a deadline a-comin’. Quick, Trump, invent the Shield of the Americas and declare Kristi Noem its high priestess! To secure a place on the primary ballot, Noem would have needed to collect 2,171 petition signatures and file them by 5 p.m. on March 31. She had 26 days but no time, as she threw herself into her new job, with sources saying that Noem felt she had no choice but to show her willingness to toe the president’s line. Latchem’s sources say Trump really threw that shit together. Made up an event at Trump National Doral, got whichever Latin American leaders were willing to hop on planes we guess for the sole purposes of honking horns and jangling keys to make Kristi Noem laugh and distract her until the filing deadline passed. Rubio was there, Secretary Shitfaced Hegseth, plus the leaders of Argentina, El Salvador, Bolivia, and Ecuador. And then she got to go on a trip, around Latin America! Yay! And Corey CumAndBoneMe got to come with, and maybe he brought their humping blanket, and maybe they humped it in Spanish, and then … The White House panicked as they realized Noem was treating the role as substantive rather than symbolic. “They didn’t expect her to take it so seriously,” the administration source said. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. So they had created a monster, one under the impression that it had been sent on a secret mission. This is all … oh my God. They tried to unring the bell by having her report to one of Rubio’s underlings instead of Rubio himself. That guy, Deputy Secretary of State Chris Landau, “has now nuked the whole thing,” says Latchem’s source in the administration. She tried to bring 10 staffers along to her fake job. Three have already been fired, from even more fake jobs. The ostensible reason for their firing from fake jobs? Because they were Lewandowski loyalists. But really, says Latchem? The simpler reality, though, is that “there is no job” for them, according to PunchUp’s sources. And now Kristi Noem will probably have to be Cricketed to death from her new (fake) job because oh boy, they really did not think she would be taking this so seriously, oh boy, this sure did get out of hand! Well, if all else fails, she can always run for president. It’s not like it’s gonna be JD Vance. OPEN THREAD! [PunchUp] Want to read more Evan than just what’s at Wonkette? ICE Times, Not Nice Times
Photo by Daniel Born on Unsplash In the Senate yesterday, talks to end the Department of Homeland Security shutdown broke down again, with Democrats refusing to budge on issues like identification for federal officers and having an actual judge-signed warrant before they bust down your door. So Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-SD, said that Republicans will try to pass the money for Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection “the hard way,” by bypassing Democrats altogether with a budget reconciliation bill that only requires a simple majority vote in the 53-47 Senate. Full-body hemorrhoid said what? Trump has already said, though, that he won’t sign anything that doesn’t include the SAVE Act, which the Senate has been stalling on and seems unlikely to pass. The button below will take any amount of your choosing at Paypal — let us know if you want the newsletter subscription too! the Paypal won’t make you a newsletter subscription! — or we have a Patreon too. Wonkette $ machine! And now the DHS under proud kid-beater Markwayne Mullin (and the likes of FEMA Waffle House teleporter Gregg Philips, and nervous-breakdown-having ICE head Todd Lyons) has ordered thousands of furloughed non-essential workers to return to work and to get paid, whether said budget reconciliation passes or not. Is that a legal thing they can actually do? Guess we’ll see! Meanwhile, most Americans want what the Democrats want. Polls have found only about 38 percent approve of how Trump is handling immigration, his onetime-signature issue, and two-thirds think DHS has gone too far. President Donald John Trump has never made a secret that non-MAGA humans are on the level with dogs to him, and he doesn’t much care for dogs. And about 38 percent of the country approves of his shoot-em-in-the-street attitude! Under his rule, DHS has been kidnapping, beating, and killing people, regardless of their citizenship status, and holding them indefinitely under conditions that violate international law, and sometimes directly in violation of judges’ orders. Meanwhile, DHS continues to spend more than $100 BILLION dollars a year to hold between 60,000-73,000 people in 104 facilities, in conditions the ASPCA would deem inhumane, worse than ones furnished to serial killers on death row, but at least 70 percent of them without as much criminal history as a speeding ticket, and only 5 percent with a violent crime conviction. And though DHS could afford to give them (and the rest of us too) all Japanese bidets, Italian sheets, and Peter-Attia-style lifemaxxing vitamins for that, detainees have been subjected to sardine-crammed cages and overflowing toilets and deprived of sanitary supplies and medical attention. They are often deprived of access to their lawyers, and facilities are frequently lacking translators, or translated paperwork. In Texas, ICE has detained and is trying to deport the only licensed Hindi, Punjabi, and Urdu legal interpreter in the entire state, who has lived in the US for 35 years, and has been denying her access to medical care. So far 46 detainees have died in custody. Many are refugees who arrived here seeking asylum from countries like Venezuela, Afghanistan, and El Salvador, or on valid student visas, only to have the regime yank the rug of legal protection out from under them and have masked monsters go after them and their families, sometimes with gas and bullets. DHS has detained children as young as newborn age, kids with cancer, the disabled, pregnant, and elderly, and dozens of US citizens, some who claim to have also been beaten and choked by agents. And some US citizens have been detained by DHS with no charges just for protesting, and their faces put into the Palantir database and been flagged as enemies of the state. Did we mention the billions for all of this is coming out of cutting everybody’s already-shitty medical care? No wonder Trump is so angry with the Pope. It’s morally indefensible under any moral code or any other rule of law but the Church of the Poison MAGA Mind, with its moral bottom that exists somewhere in the unknowable depths of Trump’s person-man-woman-camera-TV brain. But even the inside of DHS and ICE is not so bottomless. The New York Times interviewed 80 former and current DHS and DOJ employees who shape a narrative of even true believers being bewildered, unprepared, frustrated, and confused by the new violent and chaotic regime. And a federal appeals court has put a halt to Judge James E. Boasberg’s contempt investigation for those deportation flights. Supreme Court justices and especially Brett Kavanaugh say it is just fine for ICE to kidnap people off the street for having a mere foreign whiff about them. Some times are nice times, but this is ICE times. May there be justice done some day, but that day doesn’t seem to be dawning any time soon. Dems Getting Closer And Closer To Taking Senate, Let's Not F*ck It Up!
A common Democratic senator talking to Stephen Colbert As we watch Donald Trump and Republicans pull their pants down and play with their poo in front of American voters, just destroying and getting their smears on everything they touch — as Trump starts wars only to lose them in record time, as he openly declares that gas prices are staying the same or maybe going up, as JD Vance causes everything he looks at to go flaccid, as Trump declares himself Jesus and shits on the pope — one might wonder how things are looking for them in the polls, here, seven months out from the midterms. As it happens, we have some updates on that! The Cook Political Report made big headlines yesterday when it moved four seats in the Senate toward Democrats, in very big and important ways. (Hey remember when the House was the sure bet for Democrats and the Senate seemed like a long shot?) Before yesterday, Cook had the Senate race in North Carolina as a tossup. It is now a “Lean Democrat.” This is the open seat to replace Republican Thom Tillis, who is quitting this shit and going home. This would make that a pickup for Dems. This is where former Governor Roy Cooper, who knows how to run and win statewide in North Carolina as a Democrat, is running to win. Put your bux on him. Before yesterday, Cook had the Jon Ossoff race in Georgia as a tossup. It is now a “Lean Democrat.” Because Jon Ossoff is sexy and those Georgia Republicans are A BUNCHA NUTS. There are probably other electoral factors at play, but we didn’t start writing this blog post to be forced to look up stuff. (Cook notes that the GOP primary in Georgia is a real mess, and so does Politico. Meanwhile Jon Ossoff is just over here, bein’ sexy and campaigning and raising money.) Put your bux on him, sexily. Ohio! Remember how Sherrod Brown was in the Senate, but then he lost his seat to a disgusting creep man, which could describe any Republican man, but in this case describes Bernie Moreno? Well he’s back, he’s running against current Republican Senator Jon Husted, and Cook has just shifted that race from “Lean Republican” to “Toss Up.” In Ohio! Which in any other non-Trump-2.0 world would be so far red we wouldn’t even be talking about it. Give Sherrod your bux. Oh, and then how about Nebraska! That guy Dan Osborn is running again, as an independent, like he did before! He’s running against Senator Pete Ricketts, and who knows, but Cook just moved that race from “Solid Republican” to “Likely Republican,” which could at the very least force Republicans to spend campaign bux on things that should be sure bets for them. Go ahead and put some bux at him too. Right now, the makeup of the Senate is 53 Republicans, 44 real Democrats, two independents (Bernie and Angus King) and one John Fetterman. The goal is for Democrats to win so many seats that we can keep forcing John Fetterman to sit all by himself, or if the Republicans decide they want his sloppy can’t-buy-a-suit-lookin’-ass it won’t even matter. If you give money to Wonkette, we might actually buy a suit, because we are classy. In other sexy news of Democrats winning in the polls and Republicans screwing themselves, Gen Z, those rapscallions, those whippersnappers, those so-and-sos, those gadabouts, those noodle-heads, those blunderbusses, those jolterheads, those lobcocks, those unlicked cubs, are fully moving toward the Democrats, according to the new Yale Youth Poll. This is a big deal, because remember how Trump managed his squeaker in 2024 largely due to how he reached out to some youngs, particularly podcast-listening young men? Newsweek notes that two years ago, Republicans and Democrats were about tied with the youngest youngs. These days the 18-22 group prefers Democrats by 23 points. Dems are ahead by 30 points among the 24-29s. And why? Because like all decent human beings, they fucking loathe Donald Trump. Trump’s disapproval rate among 18-22s is 68 percent. Among 30-34s, it is 75 percent. The only group where Trump is not underwater in the approval rating race is, you guessed it, Gen X, fucking Gen X, what is fucking wrong with you, we mean us. Look at this shit: Gen X is also the only group where Democrats don’t lead on the generic ballot. Look at this shit: Seriously, fucking Gen X. But back to the point, which is the youngs! The Trump hate is growing among both Gen Z men and women too, though it’s still strongest among women. (One weird anomaly Newsweek noted is that Democrats actually lost a slight bit of ground among 18-22 men, but also that the “I hate Trump” numbers in that group rose. Poor 18-22 boys, their frontal lobes aren’t finished growing.) Overall, though, the groups where Democrats have gained the most — which matters for the midterms — are women 18-45 and men 23-34. (Again, bless those 18-22 boys’ hearts.) So that is what is happening with that poll. Read the whole thing here! Finally, there are no numbers attached to this, but Axios is out with an article this week that suggests that Donald Trump attacking the pope and taking literal shits on the baby Jesus may hurt his standing among American Catholics, who are very swingy with their votes, and whom he won in 2024. And the people they talked to are seeing movement among white Catholics too, not just Latino Catholics, which is happening for obvious reasons. Comments from the expert Axios talked to: “I cannot think of any parallels, at least coming from Western Christian majority countries, of such pointed and public attacks on the Pope,” Andrew Chesnut, Virginia Commonwealth University’s Catholic studies chair, tells Axios. […] The conclave comment may be particularly risky, said Chesnut in a Monday phone interview. Many Catholics believe the Holy Spirit guides cardinals in selecting a pope. Trump’s claim Leo was chosen for political reasons challenges a process devout Catholics consider sacred. You’d think maybe shitting on the pope and Jesus would be the last thing Donald Trump would want to do right now, but hey, he think he’s his own best political strategist. Let him keep going. You’re nailing it, sir, we say as a big strong man with tears in our eyes! Want to read more Evan than just what’s at Wonkette? Visit The Moral High Ground and subscribe to it!
Knock Knock, Congress, Are You There?
So, the No New Wars President, Donald J. Trump, has turned out to be a genocidal maniac and vowed that a “whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again” in Iran. His own self-made six week deadline for ending the “precise” “little excursion,” the “short-term” operation he started February 28 has come and gone. And instead of giving him a “war boost” with voters, it’s increasingly unpopular. The rising gas, groceries, medical bills etc. are busting household budgets across the land. But a small handful of people could put a stop to his war-crime madness, or at least give it a gung-ho try! Congress, where are you? You got some work to do now! They can’t hear you, too many whirring Vitamixes blending up their spring break daiquiris and refreshing lemon drops. Democratic House leadership issued a statement for the House to “come back into session immediately and vote to end this reckless war of choice in the Middle East before Donald Trump plunges our country into World War III. It’s time for House Republicans to put patriotic duty over party loyalty and join Democrats in stopping this madness,” and a growing list are also calling for his removal by the 25th Amendment. Subscribed? But as far as Trump’s concerned, as long as he doesn’t call it war, he is not obligated to ask permission or tell them shit, and that clearly suits most of them just fine. “I won’t use the word war because they say if you use the word war, that’s maybe not a good thing to do,” Trump told the National Republican Congressional Committee Dinner on March 25. “They don’t like the word war, because you’re supposed to get approval, so I’ll use the word military operation, which is really what it is.” Have his briefings devolved from the depth of Marmaduke strips to Ziggy? Surely it is a bit demeaning for congressional Republicans, being blocked from any information and portrayed as incapable of doing the job they were elected to do? And was it really necessary for Trump to go publicly tie up their balls in little pink bows like that, just to make a point? And now whoa, Trump pal Sen. Ronald Harold Johnson of Wisconsin went and told the “John Solomon Reports” podcast that “I hope and pray” Trump is “using this [screaming Carlos the Jackal genocide talk] as bluster.” “I do not want to see us start blowing up civilian infrastructure. [...] We are not at war with the Iranian people. We are trying to liberate them.” Sigh, that was yesterday, RonJohnWiscon, Trump is now quite clear that his plan is to liberate 93 million of their souls from their bodies at 8 p.m. Eastern, 5 Pacific. Check your local listings for details. And Rep. Mike Lawler is sure that Trump didn’t mean what he said about the whole destroying an entire civilization thing. Lawler and Sen. John Curtis of Utah also both said a month ago that lawmakers should intervene and assert their authority if the conflict extends past 60 days, or maybe 90, which would be April 29 or May 29. Tick tock, boys, what’s the plan? As for majority leaders Mike Johnson in the House and John Thune in the Senate, well. All Johnson has to said about the war-peration is he doesn’t want to nation-build. And while Thune supported the strikes, he did tell NOTUS last week that he’d warned Trump behind closed doors that if the war-whatever doesn’t end “in the near term,” he was going to start having “fallout” in the Senate on account of the prices: “People are pocketbook voters, and even those who are inclined to say this makes sense from a national security standpoint. So yeah, it has real implications and ramifications, and I think an extended presence there creates that.” Yes, if you exchange dollars for goods and services, hard to miss it takes more of them to get less. And even if you do support the US taking over Iran and drinking their milkshake of oil forever and ever, Trump/Hegseth are failing by their own admissions. They are past their own seven deadlines, including the maximum six-week one for the operation, and the US still does not control the skies over Iran, the Strait through which a fifth of the world’s crude flows, a pocketful of uranium or anything else. Gee, if only there was some technology to harvest the power of the sun, and/or wind so our economy was not so dependent on cheap crude! It’s a pickle for legislators, though, they get on Trump’s BADTHINK side at one’s own peril! Still, as elections since 2024 have shown, a Trump-dorsement doesn’t have the cachet it used to, even in blood-red Texas. And jacked trucks use a lot of dino juice! Meanwhile, Democrats — other than John fucking Fetterman, that is — are urging with all their might for their colleagues to do something, anything about the guy. You are correct, minority leader Chuck Schumer! But if Republicans ever owned the consequences of their actions, they wouldn’t be Republicans, would they? Some are even calling for full impeachment, or a 25th Amendment-ing, or the Apollo Sandman tap-dancing him offstage with a giant clown hook. As well they fucking should, though those things actually happening are all equally unlikely. Yes, you can, people on the business end of the presidential human centipede. Yes, you can, Congress! Well?? OPEN THREAD. [ABC / NOTUS] Want to donate just once? Share the joy of Wonkette with a pal! Share

Trump Goons Promise Everything Is Fine, At Home And Abroad, On The Sunday Shows
In Episode 10 of Season Three of HBO’s Game Of Thrones, Lord Tywin Lannister imparts this wisdom to his petulant grandson, who had just exclaimed that he was “the king” after being lightly mocked and threatened by his Uncle Tyrion: “Any man who must say, ‘I am the king’ is no true king.” This thought was recurring as we watched the Sunday shows and Trump’s toadies kept trying to assure us that everything is going smoothly, despite our very eyes and facts disputing this. Tom Homan Let’s start with the disasters at home as we take a look at the jumbled mumbles that came out of Trump’s “Border Czar” Tom Homan. Artistic rendition by WB Animation of Tom Homan “allegedly” accepting bribes in Cava bags. Appearing on CNN’s State Of The Union and CBS’s Face The Nation, Homan tried to assure viewers that ICE is totally useful and definitely assisting TSA during this GOP-caused partial DHS shutdown, and NOT just standing around, how very dare you! On CNN, he promised that TSA would be paid by today or Tuesday, while we await for the House GOP to stop holding them hostage, thanks to a plan by new DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin. But Homan, an oaf, was not prepared for the logical follow-up Jake Tapper asked: TAPPER: If the administration had the power to move funds around to pay TSA agents this whole time, why did it take 41 days to do it? And how long will this money last? Homan tried to marblemouth his way around this by saying the Coast Guard, Secret Service, and CISA would still not be paid. But Tapper, in a rare moment of journalism, pushed further: TAPPER: Right. But if President Trump had the power to pay TSA agents this whole time, why only start doing it now? HOMAN: Look, I don't understand — look, I'm a cop. I don't understand the whole appropriations language, appropriations law. We mock Homan for looking like/acting like a cartoonishly unintelligent stooge, but then he outright proves the accusation. Homan (and probably Mullin) was in such a hurry to get a cookie or a head pat from Trump for moving some of the massive DHS budget already appropriated out of the $191 Billion from the “One Big Beautiful Bill” Act, he failed to realize that it implies the pain caused by this shutdown could have been avoided the whole time. We’re all Sally Field right now. Homan was also asked if, now that TSA is getting paid, would ICE kindly go fuck right off out of airports since they are not trained or qualified to do anything of use. For that answer, we turn to his appearance on CBS. Subscribe now! Homan’s answer to host Margaret Brennan was not very reassuring. HOMAN: Look, we’re going to continue a nice presence there, and until the airports feel like they’re in- they’re in 100 percent, you know, in a posture where they can do no normal operations. If less TSA agents come back, that means we’ll keep more ICE agents there. […] We’ll be there as long as they need us, until they get back to normal operations and feel like those airports are secure. No one needs ICE at the airports, especially for security, and yet they’ll persist in “keeping a presence.” They’re like a herpes flare-up, but somehow less charming and much deadlier. James Lankford and Tom Cotton But if you’re worried that it’s really bad domestically, it’s also quite the shitshow internationally. After stumbling ass-backwards into another Middle East war, Trump’s party is scrambling to tell us “it’ll be different this time, baby,” like a toxic ex. On NBC’s Meet The Press, Oklahoma GOP Senator James Lankford struggled to insist we are winning this non-war/kerfuffle in Iran. WELKER: Senator Lankford, do you agree with President Trump that the United States has, in fact, won the war? LANKFORD: We are won or winning, there is no question about that. We have questions about that. Not only because it’s still going on, but as Lankford later stated, Trump is bringing in thousands of Marines as ground troops and preparing 10,000 more to deploy to the region. That’s not what winning looks like, and it certainly makes everyone question things. For a less nuanced and more rubber-stamp-like perspective, GOP Senator Tom Cotton of Arkansas appeared on Fox News Sunday. When asked about his concerns about ground troops entering this region, after host Shannon Bream read an op-ed by a veteran and military analyst saying they would be sitting ducks, Cotton reverted to nonsense babble preapproved talking points: COTTON: [M]y concern is that Iran is a revolutionary regime that’s been killing Americans by the thousands for 47 years. […] We’re going to destroy their missiles, their missile launchers, their drones, sink their navy, destroy their air force. Um, we’re going to again set back their nuclear program. They never explain what they mean by all these “thousands” of “Americans” that “Iran” has been “killing.” We guess we’re just supposed to accept that We Have Always Been At War With Iran. Cotton, like the common Gollum he is, went on to blame all the bad news and headlines on those “tricksy” Democrats and the media. But, when Bream brought up GOP members of Congress who attended the same briefing he did, like Reps. Nancy Mace and Mike Rogers, who are saying they are concerned about what they are seeing, good ole ‘Tanker Wars 2” Cotton went back to his warmongering. COTTON: The endgame is has been clear from the very beginning. This revolutionary regime is going to be defanged and neutered. It will no longer be able to hold the civilized world at risk. “Defanged,” “neutered,” and “civilized world”? Welp, we just completed our colonial interventionism BINGO card with those dogwhistles, so we think that’s a good end for this. Have a week.
