Rep. Tim Burchett said multiple government and military officials briefed him on the existence of extraterrestrial life, and he added that he would take a lie detector test to back up his account. Burchett said the beings do not appear to pose a threat. He reasoned that any civilization capable of reaching Earth with such advanced technology would have had every opportunity to destroy humanity by now. He serves on the House Task Force on the Declassification of Federal Secrets, and said he recently received a briefing on the subject that would have seriously unsettled the public if released. Despite that, he said he supports full transparency.
