Maternal mortality rates in the United States are among the highest in the developed world, and the reasons behind these deaths are not always purely medical. If violence at home is a major hidden factor in these deaths and illnesses, identifying the exact level of risk can lead to life-saving interventions. This study would provide the evidence needed to change how doctors screen for safety, potentially catching dangerous situations before they lead to a health crisis or death.
